The Arqus Open Science Ambassador Network is a joint expert network of Open Science enthusiasts, who are working together in order to promote Open Science, share best practices in their specific scientific disciplines and give advice when needed. Its members are engaged in several Open Science topics and acting as intermediaries between researchers, universities and the alliance. Their drivers for promoting Open Science lie primarily in the belief in the idea of openness and enabling free access to academic knowledge. “Open Science is a set of good practices, principles and goals that aims to reduce barriers in all aspects of the research process for the benefit of research and society.” (Arqus, OPP (2022), p. 7). Therefore, Open Science refers to a research and scientific practice that promotes transparency, accessibility, reproducibility and collaboration in the scientific process. It encompasses the reduction of financial, technical and legal obstacles for all actors involved in research, as well as for society, economy and politics. Besides that, making research data, methods, and research findings openly available to the public, allowing for increased validation, reproducibility, and the acceleration of scientific discovery is involved. Open Science also includes Citizen Science as well as Open Innovation and is strongly related to the reform of the research assessment system.
